Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) is a cashless national health insurance welfare scheme introduced by the Government of India. The objective of this scheme is to protect Below Poverty Line (BPL) households from the financial liabilities arising from health setbacks involving hospitalisation.
Moreover, it also empowers them to choose their health service provider, either private or public, thus creating an incentive mechanism for health service providers to ameliorate the quality of their services.
In this scheme, up to five members in a family are covered, and the enrollment for beneficiaries is done through biometric smart cards. Also, a robust backend data management system is being developed to track pan India transactions and provide detailed analytical reports.
